EnvelHopes - 13 / 20 DIY Gifts Under $20

Activity 13 of our '20 gifts Under $20' series!! You'll love this little envelope of hope & love - for someone super special in your life who needs a pick-me-up!

Gift #13 – Canvas EnvelHopes

With your All The Colours paint already on hand, you’ll need:

  1. Plain White Canvas Fabric - $8 for 50cm from Spotlight AUS
  2. Washi Tape (3mm) - $1.50 each from Washi Tape Aus
  3. Velcro Dot - $4 from Spotlight Aus
  4. Craft Glue - Any
  5. One A3 piece of paper (or two A4 pieces stuck together)
  6. Pen

Total Spend - $16.50

Step 1 (Optional)

If you'd like rigid envelopes (and don't want to cover the edges of your envelope to prevent fraying) I would recommend covering your canvas with a thick coat of craft glue. Make sure you leave this completely flat while drying to prevent waves in your envelopes. It will work without this step if you're time-poor (more info below).

Step 2

Create your paper envelope template. I stuck two pieces of A4 paper together for the below example. When you're happy with your template, trace an outline of this directly onto your canvas fabric when it's dry.

Step 3

Get Painting! Let the kids go wild, painting their envelope with all their favourite colours, objects and patterns.

My daughter is obsessed with pink at the moment! Where as I went for a multi-colour pattern..

Step 4

When dry, fold your envelope into shape, and apply a minimal strip of craft glue inside on each side to hold the envelope together. We complete this with washi tape on each edge for extra hold and a colour pop! Last of all, place your sticky velcro dot under the flap to hold it shut!

NOTE - If you haven't applied a coat of craft glue before painting, run a strip of washi tape along each raw edge of fabric BEFORE you fold your envelope into shape.

And there you have it! Fill up these gorgeous envelopes with photos, letters, quotes or keepsakes, to brighten some luck person's day.

Happy Creating!

xx
