Napkin Rings - 4 / 20 Kids' DIY Gifts Under $20

Activity 4 of our '20 gifts Under $20' series!! 💰

Reminder - the only art supplies you’ll need on hand for ALL 20 gifts is:

  1. All The Colours Painter’s Parcel (or kids paint of equal quality)
  2. Life of Colour Paint Pens (or similar)

Gift #4 – Napkin Rings

With your paint and paint pens already on hand, you’ll need:

Air dry clay - $3

Cloth Napkins - $5

Craft Glue - $4

Total Spend = $12

Note - We bought our cloth napkins from Kmart Aus.

Step 1 - Make the rings

Taking a small piece of clay (approximately the size of a 50c coin), roll into one long snake like piece. Scratch each end of the long roll with a knife or toothpick to rough up. Then connect the two ends together. The kids can then shape as they wish and smooth with water.

Step 2 - Paint the rings

Once the rings are completely dry (this may take up to two days), paint using your ATC poster paints.

Step 3 - Decorate with Paint Pens

When the paint has dried (this will be very quick!), they're ready to be decorated with special patterns, dots and designs of your little one's imagining!

Step 4 - Seal the Napkin Rings

Mixing together 20% water with 80% PVA glue, apply a coating to the napkin rings to protect the paint work.

Step 5 - Wrap it up!

And that's it! Your little one might like to decorate a small fabric bag (like we did), or these beautiful napkin rings and the accompanying fabric napkins can be wrapped up however you wish!

Happy Creating!
